I don’t see why you’d need to run pure Linux over Android. Android phones at their core are a Java app running under Linux. There were even lawsuits because Android was originally a Java app.
Working on the open Android projects seems more productive.

Dahua and Hikvision have great cameras but of course you shouldn’t trust them. Block them at the firewall. I bought mine a few years ago and preferred Hikvision for its better built in webserver for initial configuration.
On the hosting side you run Frigate, Zoneminder or BlueIris (Windows) to control the cameras and record their streams.
I don’t use either but they aren’t the same thing to suggest one is a substitute for the other. Omv has self hosting services that it installs for you. Dokploy is docker manager.

I switched to ECC only for my home server over 10 years ago after a silent ram error corrupted some data on my raid drives. I didn’t realize there was a problem until I went to look at an old photo and it was corrupted.

I got an old Lenovo P330 Xeon with 64 G of ECC ram. I recently checked its power usage for another poster asking the same thing. I was shocked to see it only use 15Watts while streaming 4k hevc.
For server use, ECC is important because it’s going to be on 24/7 for years at a time.
Bitrot happens even when sitting around. Magnetic domains flip. SSD cells leak electrons.
Reading and rewriting with an ECC system is the only way to prevent bit rot. It’s particularly critical for SSDs.
Not really. The first local login to configure it requires a Plex account. And that account times out maybe monthly? It seems every few months when I remote to the Plex server it wants the plex account to login.
The problem with Plex is it isn’t fully hosted. Plex controls user passwords. You can’t use it without logging into their servers.

Many people live in cities without owning their house. So they never see those bills. Renters are usually two levels away from the actual owner. Then there are all the people who live and work in cities but aren’t official renters.
That quickly becomes a tragedy of the commons. The city residents pay for it but how do you verify “citizenship”?

I got a sff P330 Xeon with integrated graphics for ~$500 two years ago that includes case power supply etc. Far faster than an n100 and even lower power than if you added a GPU to an n100.

My Lenovo sff workstation running Plex idles at 15 watts- which is 90% of the time. Streaming 4k 52Mbs hevc (This Flash Gordon is my torture test that caused me to upgrade 2 years ago) it’s 18 watts! I was so surprised that I went back and unplugged the Ethernet thinking I put the killawatt on the wrong server.
What’s your budget? I’m a big fan of old Xeon servers.
Yeah I want to completely switch off of Plex but neither is a good solution for my non tech family members. Mother in law is in a retirement center where they use wifi provided for the condos so I can’t access her router. And I would expect her ip to occasionally change on reboots etc. I might try IP ranges or narrow geo blocking.
I thought there was some way to use Jelly on the backend with a Plex client!
It would be a hard fork which Google is forcing anyway. That’s the path Graphene is taking.
It’s start with a basic working phone gui and apps and improve it (Graphene’s path) or start with absolutely nothing and build everything again (Pine OS etc’s path).
