One joke
+1 for thrifted laser. Just look for replacement toner before checking out.
Yeah, I think laser with viable third party cartridges is the actual answer. No matter what brand. Individual model is more important than the brand too, because my Brother was actually still kinda annoying to get working properly.
Inkjet isn’t appropriate for somebody who prints infrequently, especially refillable inkjets, because they dry out even faster than cartridges. Toner is powder and stays good for basically as long as the printer is functional.
It might depend on climate, because I live somewhere semi-arid, but it’s worth keeping in mind.

90% of the complaints I’ve heard about GIMP are just because its UI and workflow are different from whatever tool they’re used to. I like GIMP just fine because I learned on it. I don’t even like using Krita because I feel like it’s 50% gimp with a skin lol

No thanks. The 4 freedoms are essential. Everybody using this is going to be shocked when they implement ads and/or sell it.

Linux isn’t a product sold by a company. If they’re still thinking that somebody else is responsible for how they experience their technology they will not have a good time with Linux. You have to be able to take responsibility for your machine, and in our society of learned helplessness, people would rather give up that responsibility for perceived convenience.

Probably schoolwork. I don’t have high computational needs, and these work better than modern Celerons.

Then they shouldn’t be called lifetime subscriptions. This seems like a really smarmy justification of a shitty business practice.

I actually prefer the Jellyfin client to the Kodi client by a lot. Using Kodi on top just adds more unneeded complexity and reloading libraries in my experience.

It works pretty well for me but I separate anime and TV/movies, and make sure the anime library is only scraping data from anime-centric databases. But I’m also not watching too much new or obscure stuff.

I’m personally not a fan of permissible licenses, but you don’t need to bring your fetishes up in every conversation.

Its driver manager is better for newbies. Worse for experienced users though imo.

Rust is already as fast as C and memory safe. The reasons people don’t want it in the kernel basically amount to being a boomer that doesn’t like new things for immaterial reasons.

Linux has support for almost any architecture you can think of. Remember, free software can be compiled from source, which makes it comparatively easy to port to different architectures.

Because it’s not free software. It’s proprietary, so you’re still putting everything into the hands of some random corporation. Software freedom is important, and important to this community specifically.

Agreed. Notably, Bluesky doesn’t require an account to read posts.

OK. They aren’t products. Not really sure why you feel the need to announce this.
It is also extremely overblown just how “hard” arch is. Either way I know a lot more about my system and how it functions now.
