I wanted my computer to be secure but headless. Suse, fedora both had supposed instructions but in classic Linux style they had a bunch of out of date commands and software and it didn’t work. Fedora always required a human to enter a password on boot, suse just bricked.
Endeavarch had instructions (a maze of unclear gibberish, to be honest) that actually worked and did what I wanted with minimal fuss and it’s been operating well for 2 years.

Barring literally everything else, this steam box shares its lineage with the Xbox, not Sony or Nintendo’s products. Speaking as one who ran xbmc on their classic first-gen it’s nice to see things coming full circle to “everything is just a media center pc, bitches”.
Keeping it in your bedroom has advantages, especially if you’re prone to forgetting because you see it right in front of you before you go to bed. The founder and frontman of graphene, the person who “stepped away” but did no such thing, the man who insisted for years he wasn’t the only face of graphene but very very clearly was based on his social media posts, has had a long history of abusing both individuals and organizations within the broader privacy enthusiast community. You, like the article, need to stop looking at “he said and she said so they both seem bad” and look at what actually happened and judge for yourself. Graphene has post after post after post of circular logic pointing back at mythical attackers with no actual proof to show for it. People who want daniel @ graphene to get the help he needs have post after post after post of recorded abuse and several videos exist documenting that abuse. So it’s his word and circular logic vs a long record of incident after incident after incident of abuse.
Tldr graphene is run by someone who appears to be brilliant but also appears to suffer from undiagnosed mental health issues and nobody has been able to convince him to get the help he needs. In the meantime, he has spent large portions of the last 5 years ranting and abusing people on the internet. I have the advantage of having watched it play out in real time, but records and archives exist.
The short version is they take grapheneos’ abuse of others at face value and appear to take grapheneos’ side. Graphene is by all outward appearances a good product, but their founder has a great deal of untreated mental issues related to paranoia and has a long history of abusing other groups and encouraging his most loyal followers to do the same. As far as I’m aware I am not exaggerating this in any way and I hope the founder eventually admits he needs help.
So if one of your items is someone with paranoid delusions, and you don’t question that in any way and make it clear by your words you’ve taken that person’s side, I cannot take any other argument seriously without doing my own checking (which I have not done yet, hence my original phrasing).

Except the person who wrote that, regardless of the actual issues with FUTO, cannot be trusted and is an unreliable source.
I really would encourage people to not treat that guy as a real source, but use it as a starting point for evaluating his sources, such as they are, on their own merits.
Having windows on top of each other might be useless but it also doesn’t hurt anything, and KDE already has the ability to snap windows into different positions. So this description doesn’t really capture the problem you’re solving.
My os does not do that
I don’t consider “wanting a secure app to be installed through first party means” to be particularly unusual. I know in Linux it’s standard to just install random stuff from the internet with root. I’ve obviously done that myself, but for secure stuff I want first party. Making a flatpak wouldn’t be hard (they probably just need to review someone else’s work – it’s like an intern project)
If you care to trust random strangers with your secure messenger that’s a choice you can make (admittedly the desktop isn’t particularly secure to begin with but even more reason to use the actual org’s build imo). I’m sure christian heusel is very reputable.

The signal org produces a debian-compatible package and an apt server. I suppose there are hoops to jump through to make that work reliably on other distros but by that point my interest in using Linux was dwindling. (I actually moved for the performance benefits which didn’t materialize I think due to linux’ piss poor memory handling – I have a pretty low end laptop with only 16 gb of ram. the above we’re all just issues along the way).

Yes, I find Linux terribly unusable on my laptop, way too many driver issues, hard to get into a secure state, and I miss apps like signal (no official build) mpc-hc (the replacements are all trash) and a functional version of thunderbird (lol at the tray icon third party implementation that just doesn’t work). Etc, etc. I don’t have a ton of unique needs but I do want theto work
^and this is of course with KDE, gnome is all that but with just a trash user interface. How many gestures do I need to use to make my computer treat me like an adult ffs.
It’s still of course on my server (an old laptop which ironically can’t be used as a laptop because at some point after some random update the login service broke and won’t accept input from the keyboard lol) and other headless devices I don’t have to actually use, thank god.
